Find a job — or post one.
Two ways in: apply directly on the big official job sites (each button says exactly where it takes you), or use our community job board, where local employers and members post openings.
Never pay to apply for a job or to “unlock” an offer — real employers never charge applicants.
Never share bank details, passwords, or ID copies before a signed offer from a verified employer.
Verify the recruiter: find the company’s public phone number yourself and call — scammers impersonate real businesses.
Sky-high pay for simple work-from-home tasks is the classic setup. If it feels wrong, ask a Umoja243 volunteer first.
📄 Résumé tips
One page for most jobs; two only with long experience.
Start bullets with action verbs + numbers (“served 40 customers a day”).
Translate foreign job titles into U.S. equivalents, and add your credential evaluation (see Study & Credentials) if you have one.
Save as PDF with your name as the filename.
🎤 Interview pointers
Research the employer; prepare a 60-second story of your experience.
Arrive 10 minutes early; bring ID and copies of your résumé and work authorization.
You may ask for an interpreter for many public-sector processes — ask ahead.
Send a short thank-you email the same day.
Workers' rights: whatever your job, New York law protects you — minimum wage, overtime, paid sick leave, and the right to be paid on time apply broadly, and it is illegal for an employer to threaten you over immigration status for reporting a violation. Questions or a problem at work: NY Department of Labor (dol.ny.gov) or free legal aid in our Legal Services directory.
📌 Community job board
Posted by local employers and members — posts appear here instantly during your visit. Listings marked “Example” show the format. Always verify a job and employer before sharing personal documents, and never pay for a job offer.

CV / Resume Builder — build a U.S.-style resume, free.
Fill in the steps, watch the preview update as you type, pick a style, then download your resume — ready to print or save as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — nothing is uploaded, saved or sent anywhere.
U.S. resume rules
How American resumes work
One page for most people (two only with 10+ years of relevant experience).
No photo, no age, no marital status, no full home address — city & state is enough.
Start every bullet with an action verb and add numbers: “Served 60 customers a day,” not “responsible for customers.”
Tailor it to each job: mirror the words in the job posting.
Save and send as PDF, named like Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf.
New to the U.S.?
Your Congo experience counts
Translate job titles into U.S. equivalents — e.g. “infirmier” → Registered Nurse / Nursing Assistant (only if the duties match).
Work from Congo, family businesses, church and community roles are real experience — describe duties and results.
Volunteer work counts: interpretation, organizing events, helping newcomers — list it like a job.
Put your languages up front — French, Lingala, Kiswahili, Kikongo or Tshiluba plus English is a hiring advantage in New York.
A credential evaluation (see Study & Credentials) can help employers understand Congolese diplomas.
The example is a made-up person — load it, then replace every line with your own.
The download saves your resume as a file you can open in any browser — from there, use the browser's Print → “Save as PDF” to get a clean PDF for applications. Your information never leaves this device.
